Fireworks, flags and parades are now the fun ways we celebrate July 4th, but do you know what celebrations were done on July 4, 1777?
It was in Philadelphia that Independence Day was first honored by adjourning Congress and celebrating with bonfires, bells and fireworks.
As Thomas Jefferson wrote, "For ourselves, let the annual return of this day forever refresh our recollections of these rights, and an undiminished devotion to them."
Centuries later, this is now a national holiday celebrated throughout every town in the United States.
