Burntwood Tavern as a Movie Theater?

We drive by the marquis that hangs above Burntwood Tavern and Erie Island Coffee every day, but did you know that it is the original marquis from the days when the building was home to a movie theater?

The theatre opened on August 28, 1937 and was open almost 40 years before closing it's doors in June 22, 1976. During this time, it served the community in a variety of ways, such as hosting the Rocky River High School Graduation ceremonies and Sunday worship services for Our Savior's Lutheran Church during a reconstruction project in the 1950s.

What a treat to have been able to see a movie right in Downtown River!
