Father's Day History

William Jackson Smart was a farmer from Arkansas; a sergeant with the Union's First Arkansas Light Artillery during the American Civil War, and is the reason why we celebrate father's day. See more at http://www.ilstv.com

Celebrated for the first time on June 19, 1910 in Spokane, Washington, Father's Day was founded by Sonora Smart Dodd.

After hearing a sermon on Mother's Day, Dodd wanted to create a day to honor her father, civil war veteran William Jackson Smart, who single-handedly raised six children.

We wish every father, stepfather and grandfather a wonderful Father's Day!
