Who Started Earth Day?

It's hard to believe but Earth Day is a relatively new day of observation that began in 1970 by Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin.

Upset by a huge oil spill, Senator Nelson worked to include environmental protection on the political stage. 

The first Earth Day, held on April 22, 1970, continues to be recognized and supported by many dedicated to protecting our environment!
