Why Do We Go Door to Door Asking For Candy on Halloween?

We take our kids trick or treating every year, but do we really know where this tradition comes from?

Halloween is believed to have started in the pre-Christian era as part of the Celtic festival that was celebrated on October 31.

Centuries later, All Souls Day was celebrated in Scotland and Ireland, with children dressing up and going house to house telling jokes.

It wasn’t until the 1930’s that trick-or-treating for treats became popular in the United States. Even then kids could expect fruit, nuts and baked goods. Decades later the idea of passing out candy took shape into the night we all know and love today.

We wish you and your little ones a happy and safe Halloween filled with lots of treats!
