About the Big Boy No. 4014

Built in 1941, designed to haul heavy freight over steep grades during WWII.

Weighs about 1.2 million pounds and is 133 feet long.

Only one of 25 Big Boy engines still in operation; retired in 1961 after over 1 million miles.

Known for its 125-decibel whistle, audible up to 20 miles over land and 25 miles over water under ideal conditions.

Viewing Tips

Arrive early for parking and to avoid congestion.
